BMW 645ci Air Filter Replacement – 10 Minutes
A BMW 645ci air filter replacement takes less than 10 minutes and is an important part of your regular engine maintenance schedule.
Maintenance. We here at the BMW Repair Guide can’t stress that word enough. We love our BMWs and want them to run until the odometer flips 300K, but yet we routinely skip out on the easiest of maintenance items. A BMW 645ci air filter replacement should be performed on your 6 series vehicle every 30,000 miles, along with your cabin filter. A BMW 645ci air filter replacement ensures that big V8 under the hood will run smoothly and efficiently by providing it with good clean air.

If you go to a BMW dealership to have the air filter serviced on your E63 6-series, be prepared to pay in the neighborhood of $50 for the filter, and another $50 to install it. If you follow our instructions below and “do it yourself”, you can pick up a comparable air filter on Amazon for about $20 and spend $0 installing it. We will let you do the math on that one.

Tools and Supplies
or small flat blade screwdriver
- Identify the location of your air box – it is on the left (driver) side of the vehicle. The air filter is located inside the air box.
- Release the four air box clips securing the air box lid. A metal pick or flat blade screw driver can help release the clips that are hard to reach with your fingers.
- Remove the air box lid exposing the air filter. Replace the air filter with a fresh one, and reattach the air box clips.
